“We’re really excited about the new website”, stated H&L Motorsports Co-Owner T. J. Layne.  “We have always put a lot of effort into our online presence, but we want to take that to the next level as we head into the 2012 season.  Using some of the best sports content management software available to design our new site is a start, but we also want to greatly increase the amount of content on the site.  The new site won’t only have all the necessary information, we will also have weekly features on the site as well as more featured articles.”

While the new site is being worked on, the track’s web domain will be down through December 14th, 2011.  A couple additional days of downtime is also possible.  Until then, users can type in www.tlmotorsports.com to access a temporary site.  The temporary site is a partial version of the new site.

The drivers honored will be the top five in points in each division.  The Late Model drivers that will be honored are R. J. Conley, Jackie Boggs, Delmas Conley, Billy Gullion, and Eddie Carrier Jr.  Modified drivers honored are Adam Colley, Jake Keaton, Luke Jordan, Chris Shelton, and Rick Hensley.  Bomber drivers honored are Conard Newman, David Dunn, Danny Aldridge, Keith Anderson, and Kenny Aldridge.  Co-track champions George Cauldwell and James Johnson will be the Sport Mod drivers honored. 

Over $5,000 in free pit passes will be distributed to the drivers honored.  Each track champion will receive a 2012 season pit pass which is valued at $592.  In each division, second place in points will receive 10 one race pit passes (valued at $250), third place in points will receive 8 one race pit passes (valued at $200), fourth place in points will receive 6 one race pit passes (valued at $150), and fifth place in points will receive four one race pit passes (valued at $100).

In addition to the passes, the drivers honored will also be presented with a trophy and 8 x 10 photo among other awards.  Door prizes will also be given away.  A complete list of awards and door prizes will be announced on the website as the banquet draws closer.  Drivers will need to be in attendance at the banquet to receive their awards. 

Everybody is invited to attend the banquet.  Drivers in attendance that aren’t in the top five in points will be recognized.  There are 175 seats available that will be sold on a first come first serve basis.  Tickets for the banquet are $15 and that is only to cover the cost of the dinner.  Tickets are FREE for the drivers being honored, but those drivers will still need to confirm their attendance.  Tickets must be purchased by January 1^st, 2012.  Absolutely no tickets will be sold after that.  To order tickets, mail the names of the people attending and a check for the number of tickets you want to purchase to:

The Steel Block Late Model schedule will remain unchanged from the schedule released last week. The Steel Blocks will race at SOS on May 18th, June 22nd, July 20th, August 17th, September 14th, and September 21st. Street Stocks, also known as Hobby Stocks, will race at SOS on April 20th, May 11th, May 25th, June 8th, July 25th, August 10th, August 31st, September 21st, and October 14th for a total of nine races. Enduros will be held on April 13th, May 4th, June 1st, August 3rd, and September 14th.

“We are excited about the weekly racing program we have to offer our fans next season”, stated H&L Motorsports co-owner T. J. Layne. “Rotating the Steel Block Late Models, Street Stocks, and Enduros will add a greater variety to the schedule while at the same time, maintain a consistency as Late Models, Modifieds, and Sport Mods will be a mainstay in nearly every show. We also feel like we will have stronger car counts in the Steel Block Late Model, Street Stock, and Enduro classes by running each class on a partial schedule as opposed to a weekly schedule.”

The 2012 season will get underway on Saturday, April 7th with a “Test N’ Tune” day. The “Test N’ Tune” day will give race teams a chance to take some practice laps on the track prior to the start of the racing season. The season will officially get underway on Friday, April 13th with the “Opening Night” races featuring Late Models-$2,000 to win, Modifieds, Sport Mods, and a fourth class to be announced.

In an effort to improve the weekly racing program, all weekly Late Model shows in 2012 will pay $2,000 to win. Modifieds and Sport Mods will continue to be part of the weekly racing program. SOS management is currently evaluating the status of the tracks fourth class. The track will be making a decision on whether to continue the Bomber class in 2012 or start a new, more economical stock class. A decision will be made and announced within the next two weeks.

The 2012 schedule will be highlighted by the return of the prestigious “Southern 100” on Friday, June 15th. 2012 will be the 17th running of the event that hasn’t been ran since 1998. Previous winners of the event include names such as Jack Boggs, Delmas Conley, Charlie Swartz, Billy Teegarden, Bob Pierce, M. D. Marshall, Pat Patrick, Jim Patrick, Jackie Boggs, Rod Conley, Randy Boggs, John Mason, and Larry Moore. Details are still being finalized on the event payout, but it will be the highest paying event in SOS track history. Payout details will be announced this offseason. A $1,200 to win Late Model non-qualifiers race and a $1,000 to win Modified show will tentatively be the support shows for the “17th Annual Southern 100.”

The “Southern 50”, won this year by Jackie Boggs, will return to the schedule in 2012. The race will pay $6,000 to win this season and will be held on Friday, April 27th. Also on the card will be a $800 to win Late Model non-qualifiers race (must be 30 or more cars in attendance for the non-qualifiers race to be held) and a $1,000 to win Modified show. The “Southern Showdown”, another successful 2011 event, will return to the schedule on Friday, July 13th and feature Late Models-$3,000 to win, Modifieds-$3,000 to win with a $400 to win non-qualifiers race, and Sport Mods.

Sprint Cars will take to the track two times in 2011. The first time will be on Friday, June 8th with the “3rd Annual Gene Comstock Memorial” featuring the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series. This will be the first time ever that non-wing 410 Sprint Cars have raced at SOS. The non-wing Sprints bring an exciting style of racing that race fans are sure to enjoy. 410 Winged Sprints will race at the track on Friday, August 10th as part of the “Summer Dirt Blowout” featuring Late Models-$2,500 to win, 410 Sprints-$2,000 to win, and Modifieds-$1,000 to win.

Steel Block Late Models will be a big part of the 2012 schedule at SOS. The class will race at SOS on May 18th, June 22nd, July 20th, August 17th, September 14th, and September 21st. The September 14th and 21st shows will be “$5 Friday’s” and offer an adult general admission price of only $5.
